Choices

Hey!

When submitting my application, I'll have to refer my subject choices for the semester.

I have my mind set on a few already, but I'm not quite sure yet.
Here are the courses (see 300-level, semester 2): Course Information

I'm thinking about this set of courses (click to see webpage):

  1. ECON 332 - Economics and Psychology - Economics and Psychology will discuss both how psychological insights and experimental methods may be brought to bear on the understanding of economic phenomena, especially in situations with strategic interaction. A mixture of theoretical developments and experimental results will be dealt with.
  2. ECON 326 - Monetary Economics - Derivation of the demand for money. Monetary policy under uncertainty. Analysis of alternative monetary rules. Taylor rules. Term structure of interest rates. Financial crises. International monetary arrangements.
  3. ECON 344 - International Finance - An introduction to international finance and open-economy macroeconomics. Topics covered include: the foreign exchange market; the behaviour of exchange rates; foreign exchange intervention and exchange rate regimes; international capital flows; global financial crises; and the international monetary system.
  4. ECON 335 - Public Economics I - Economic theories for the role of government in a market economy and the role of economics in the formulation and evaluation of public policy.

But first I'll have to check with my University if they are accepted, only then I'll send all the paperwork to New Zealand.

What do you think?

Paperwork

You need a LOT of stuff in order to study in New Zealand, providing you're not from a "Visa free" country like me.

I also have the added difficulty of not having a single New Zealand representative in Portugal, the closest one is London. And I also need a transit Visa for Australia, again, even having an Australian embassy in Lisbon, the nearest one capable of providing a Visa is in Madrid.

First I need the letter of nomination from my home University, provided by the International Office, together with an academic transcript. I attach these files, together with an authenticated copy of my IELTS result, to the Student Exchange Application and send it all to my host University in New Zealand.

After that, assuming everything is OK, I receive the letter of acceptance from the host University. I attach this file to the Student Visa Application INZ 1012 (www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rdonlyres/1939D919-202D-4388-83C3-C934016C3BB9/0/INZ1012.pdf), a few photos, passport copy and money transfer authorization and send it all to London. After approx. 25 days I have my Student Visa for New Zealand.

That being done, I then need to apply for a transit visa for Australia (http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/876.pdf). This is the last one because they require a valid Visa for the final destination of your flight(s).

At least there’s no Visa requirement to land in Dubai, since I’m from Portugal.

More news next time.

Hello everyone!

I will post here episodes from my journey, including photos and videos!

I'll be living for 6 months in the farthest place possible from my own country, Portugal, approximately 20'000 km, or 12'000 miles.
