North Island VI - Waimangu Volcanic Valley

Kia Ora

Lake Okaro:

Location

This is where we slept after Hobbiton. A really basic campsite near a lake. It was, in my opinion, the coldest night of the trip. I was wearing thermal top, thermal legs, and my sleeping bag is for -1º to -8ºC, and still was a bit cold.

After breakfast we went for a little walk around the lake:

Kenta and I

Getting ready to leave for the volcanic valley:

We got there and picked The Whole Walk, about 2 hours walking:

And the map for the walk:

Map and GPS track

Ready to go:

Viktoria, Danial, Yeonju, Marie, Kenta, Amalie, and Jesper. I'm taking the picture lol

There were two option on the long route: the normal one, and the "hard" sightseeing one, guess which one we chose:

That was a long way up/down

It was hot and humid, it was a volcanic valley after all:

Inferno Crater Lake - it's blue and it changes hue depending on temperature

We were getting low on energy

I think this was one of our favourite tramps, everyone was kinda excited with the views:

Of course we weren't supposed to be so close...

When the sun was shining the colours were quite impressive:

Jesper having fun

There was also this creepy forest near the end of the track:

Baby black swans

And we reached the end, we got the bus back but we could've also taken a boat ride.

Lake Rotomahana

See ya!
